Health Syllabus
2021-2022
Course Description: one-half credit full course grade; grade 10
During this one semester graduation requirement course, students will: comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention; demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health-promoting products and services; demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and reduce health-related risks; analyze the influence of culture, media, technology, and other factors on health; demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health; and demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.
Required Materials:
1. Notebook and Folder
2. Writing Utensil
3. Textbook-- Textbooks will be assigned to each student for the semester. Books are to remain in the Health room at all times. The student will have the responsibility to take care of the textbook and upon course completion the condition of the book will be checked. (If the textbook is not found to have been damaged in any way, students will be charged a replacement fee).
Attendance Policy:
In order for students to gain the knowledge necessary to pass the Health class it is important that students are present in class.
The tardy policy per student handbook is as follows:
Cell Phone Policy:
Cell phones, ipods, and other personal electronic devices are only permitted in class when the teacher gives permission. If permission has been granted to use an electronic device, the “CLEAR” guidelines must be followed and the use must be for its intended educational purposes ONLY. If I see an electronic device out without permission or it is being used for non-educational purposes, the student will be written up. Failure to comply will result in immediate disciplinary action and dean referrals.

Each student has the opportunity to earn points in a number of ways:

- If the student has an unexcused absence, all points for the day are forfeited.
- If the student is absent but the absence is excused, they have the opportunity to make up the points at a later date. However, it is the student’s responsibility to talk directly to the teacher to discuss how the points will be recovered. If the student does not inquire about the excused absence within one week, the points are forfeited for any assignment or in class discussion that was missed.
- If the student has been suspended, they have two days on the return of their suspension to inquire as to how the points will be recovered.
The tardy policy per student handbook is as follows:
- 1st tardy-teacher warning/teacher discipline options
- 2nd tardy-teacher warning/Parent Notification
- 3rd tardy-Dean Referral/two (2) opportunity hours
- 4th tardy-Dean Referral/3 hour Saturday Detention
- 5th tardy-and subsequent tardies – Dean Referral/4 hour Saturday Detention
